The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), which is a veterinary association dedicated to establishing standards of care for veterinary hospitals, has recently released a position statement on the feeding of raw foods to pets. Though this type of diet has become popular in some circles, AAHA warns that raw diets could be hazardous not only to the pet's health, but also to those humans who come into contact with these pets. Of particular concern are humans with compromised immune systems (i.e. children, elderly, or sick). This new position is also endorsed by the American Association of Feline Practitioners as well as the National Association of State Public Health Veterinarians. For more information on the topic please visit the AAHA website.
